Windows 2000 & XP Messenger pop ups

Click Start > Run

Type in services.msc /s (you can also select it from within Computer Management)

In the list of Services, scroll down to locate Messenger

Right click on the word Messenger and select Properties

Click the General tab

In the Start up panel field, click the down arrow and select Disabled.

Just below in Service Status, click on the Stop button.

This will stop the process, and setting to disabled will stop the service
running next time Windows is restarted.
